| In the
meadow across the road from Middlebury College in Vermont, I spied many
groups of these Adirondack chairs. Each group had its own story to
tell, but none contained the Romance that these two chairs
held. I could see them being climbed all over by two children who could
never be separated, I saw the teens in the glow of their first love. I
imagined a proposal being accepted. I heard the announcement of a child
to be born. I saw the tears as a couple lost everything they had except
each other and watched the grandparents relish in the company of their
grandchildren at their feet. And then I saw the chairs just empty, as a
reminder of the love two people had for each other while they shared
their lives with us who remain behind, encouraging us to share the love
we have with someone who is close to our hearts. |
